The Polaris Prize is a $20,000 award offered to independent Canadian music artists once a year. The awarding of the Polaris prize serves as a premium source to follow Canadian music. The prize is decided in three phases with the first being the announcement of the Polaris long list which was released yesterday.  The long list highlights 40 of the years best independent Canadian albums and gives the viewer an incredible music catalogue to sift over for the next few months.

On July 7th the short list will be announced where the 109 person jury will cut the list down to 10 and will be followed by the awards Gala on September 21 to announce a winner.
