Kseniya Simonova x Sand Animation

// September 22nd, 2009 // No Comments » // Art

Ukraine definitely has talent. Hot, sand wielding talent. Check this video of Kseniya Simonova sketching beautiful imagery with sand in ways I only dreamed of doing with sugar packs in diners when I was 12 years old.

My heritage lies in the tribal villages of the Philippines. This video set to Oh Woman is shot with the kids of the Manubo tribes in Mindanao with Kulintang of the Muslim culture in the south. These children are benefiting from the work of the Association for the Rights of Children in South East Asia. Thanks to organizations like ARCSEA that work to protect the rights of children throughout the Philippines, I was able to capture this joy filled video on a beautiful during my travels a short time ago.

Lightning Dust x I Knew

// September 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

The kids from Grade Scool put together a little DJ set last night to accompany performances from Tonka Puma and Montreal’s On Bodies at Rancho Relaxo. In our mad hunt to overstock our playlist for the event we came across East Vancouver’s Lightning Dust. Not new to anyone listening to Radio 3 lately, but this band is making some wildly fresh Canadian Indie. They even had TWO songs play on the much sought after R3-30 last week. Lightning Dust is playing at the Horsheshoe Tavern TONIGHT, so how ’bout that for the evening plans you were looking for.

Have a listen to their track I Knew, the song that got us hooked.

It’s a Sunday Scool party! Hope to see you there.

Parkdale Youth Festival

// September 7th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

There are a lot of great art and culture events coming up throughout September. Were going to do our best to post the ones we know of on here to spread the word.

The fifth annual Parkdale Youth Festival happens on Saturday September 19th, 2009 around the Parkdale Town Square (Queen Street and Cowan Avenue) from 12pm to 8pm. The focus for 2009 is to “Initiate and Educate” the youth of Parkdale, and the surrounding communities within Toronto, by providing workshops, performances, and interactive installations that are programmed by youth for youth. This year brings forth a renewed interest in the arts, encompassing music, painting, writing, reading, photography, dance, theatre, and other forms of performance works and artistry.

Alexander The releases Oh Woman

// September 3rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Music

A new month has begun, the summer is coming to a close and that working man’s new year smell is in the air. What better way to welcome the fall than with quality music from one of Toronto’s favourite sons. Alexander The released Oh Woman yesterday and completely flipped the script on the sound we had heard thus far off his debut EP titled [Fe'ne-tik-s].

Sourcing incredible percussion from his philipino roots Oh Woman’s melody is carried by Alexander The’s voice in such an enchanting way that it makes you feel like you’re running through the jungle to find her. I don’t know who she is, but she will look incredible when you get there.

Check out www.alexanderthe.com to hear the track and download a copy of your own for free.
